Carles Ors - Developer and Project manager,
Office of Learning Technologies

I graduated as a Computer Science Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in 1999.

Most of my educational and professional life has been dedicated to the e-learning world. Thanks to my final project, I was awarded first prize in the 1997 edition of the “Concurso de Ayudas para la elaboración de material docente” (Competition in the Aid of the drawing-up of teaching material) which focused on the economic area. I received a special distinction in my final project.

When I left University, I immediately launched myself into the enterprise world.

In the first company I worked for, I developed my skills as a java developer for a period of a year.

After that, I joined “Viviance New Education” which was an international company with its headquarters in Switzerland and whose business is e-learning. There, I specialized more in server programming and I had the opportunity of establishing contact with the Internet world and web development. I worked there for two years.

It was around 2001 when I decided to work for a bigger company. So, I joined Tecsidel, a medium-sized company whose main business is the following areas: Telecommunications, Logistics and Warehouse Systems, Toll Systems and Vehicle Control Systems and General Information Systems. More specifically, I joined the General Information System department as a senior developer and analyst.

There, I got the opportunity of getting into the real world of e-learning managing a real amount of users with the Open University of Catalonia; one of the main clients of Tecsidel.

Thus, now work for the Learning Technologies Department as a project manager in the Open Knowledge Interoperability (OKI) area. As part of this business, I participated in the OKI workshop “OSID V3 Deep Dive” held in MIT (Boston) in November 2008.

Regarding my skills, I am a proficient professional and I have got a lot of experience with web development, especially with Java, and more precisely in the field of server side development. My personal interest focuses on software engineering and architecture.

As for my hobbies, I go in for karate and other sports like ping-pong or swimming. I love playing chess as well. And what about you? Do you play chess?
